RabiAl-Awwal

Rabi Al-Awwal is the 3rd month of the Islamic calendar, this year it began on Friday 10th November 2018. According to Mufti Taqi Usmani, “Rabi Al-Awwal is the most significant month in Islamic history, because humanity has been blessed in this month by the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)”. The exact date of the Prophet’s birth is uncertain, however most scholars say it is the 12th of Rabi Al-Awwal.

For many Muslims, the month of Rabi Al-Awwal is an opportune time to remember and remind people of the great personality of the Prophet (pbuh), his biography, and his true message as a mercy for the worlds.

Allah (SWT) has told us in the Holy Qur’an:

"There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent pattern for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day and [who] remembers Allah often." [AlAhzab:21].

While the generosity and charitable nature of the Prophet is known, not so well familiar aspect of the Prophet Muhammad’s (pbuh) life and Sunnah was his regard for the land of Yemen and its people.

In one hadith, he extolled their virtue by saying, “Iman is Yemenite, and wisdom is also Yemenite.” (Bukhari), while in another hadith he said, “The people of Yemen have come to you and they are more gentle and soft-hearted.” (Bukhari)

Yemen Emergency.

Today, 22 million people in Yemen are in desperate need of your help. 8.4 million people do not know how they will get their next meal and are at risk of starvation. One child (under 5 years) dies every 10 minutes from preventable causes. This humanitarian crisis is quite literally the worst the world has seen in decades. We must act now to avert a deadly famine.

In a hadith collected by Imam Bukhari, it is narrated, “Allah's Messenger was the most generous person, even more generous than the strong uncontrollable wind (in readiness and haste to do charitable deeds).

This Rabi Al-Awwal, what better way to honour the memory of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) than following his guidance and best example?
